Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion seems to be made from the same cloth as Page 3. It's just a sequel of the same film, like Corporate or Traffic Signal were.

Fashion, well, is set around the fashion industry. And of course there is not even a mention of clothes, designers, their works and the industry itself. The only thing we learn is that there is something called a show-stopper.

Show-stopper is a word for a top-model who is the last to walk in the ramp at any fashion show. Everyone wants to be a show-stopper. And according to this film, only one man can make this happen. He is the owner of a modeling placement agency.

The entire industry has all about two fashion designers. There is space for only one super-model. So you get the fuzzy picture here.

The other word you learn or actually you already know is the typical Bombay slang called "struggler". Now to the best of my knowledge Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in India. It's about Rs 90,000 per annum. It's also the capital of two states and a union territory. I wouldn't exactly call this modern city a small town, as this film does. But Chandigarh is Priyanka Chopra's character comes from.

She is a small town girl with big dreams. She does make it, by becoming the mistress of the modeling agency head. She easily displaces the current champion, that's played by Kangana Ranaut.

Like Kangana's character, Priyanka's super-model falls into a life of sex, drugs, alcohol and arrogance. The other model in this group marries a gay designer. Thank you very much.

My favourite scene from the film is actually when the director of the movie himself appears at a party. One of the models looking at him says, "Oh that's Madhur Bhandarkar, the realistic filmmaker. Now he is going to expose the fashion world." This is when you realise how seriously the director takes himself.

Now every film is supposed to have a setting. Just because some mainstream Bollywood movies are set nowhere, it doesn't mean that merely having a setting is such a big thing. The main problem with Bhandarkar's Corporate is that it wasn't Corporate. Just like the problem with Fashion is that it isn't about fashion either.

Basically the movie perpetuates every myth and misconception you may have had about these decadent pretty young things or immoral models that you watch on billboards and television. For a film that claims to be realistic that's really quite a shame.

Mindless entertainers seem to be the statement makers for a long time now. Adding to the list is 'God Tussi Great Ho' directed by Rumy Jaffrey. The movie stars Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Sohail Khan in the lead. The movie has been in the making for a long time now. The promotion has been low key, any hopes?

Arun Prajapati (Salman Khan) has been trying to be a successful TV anchor but success has always eluded him. He only blames God for this. Arun is head over heels in love with Alia (Priyanka Chopra), who is a TV anchor and well-known star working in the same channel but he has never been able to express his love for her. Destiny plays a cruel game with him when Rocky is appointed as an anchor for the channel. Arun starts believing that Rocky will win over Alia. Circumstances go out of hand for Arun and he gets thrown out of the channel.

He has nobody to blame but God. And very soon he has an encounter with the God Almighty. An argument ensues between the two. God then decides to give Arun the power to run earth for seven days as Arun claims he can do a better job. After Arun becomes God, he becomes successful. He puts Rocky into an uneasy spot and wins Alia's heart. Also, he grants everybody's wish, and much to his dismay this becomes the biggest problem of his life.

A few moments of laughter and fun is what God Tussi Great Ho is all about. The director has etched in some crazy scenes here and there in a plot line that makes very little sense with few songs attached to add to the runtime of the movie. The first half is spent in telling us about the failures of our hero Arun and how he gets the power of God. After all this, you expect a good second half but it disappoints. The pace is slow and the songs in the later half are bad! A few scenes between Salman Khan and Anupam Kher are good. But that is all the movie has got to offer. As a whole, although entertaining, it fails to hold the viewers attention. It's the script that lets the director down more than anything else.

Cinematography is good. Dialogues are very hilarious at times. Music by Sajid-Wajid is strictly okay, doesn't live up to their usual standard.

Coming to the performances, the movie hardly has any scope for the actors except Salman's character. Salman Khan has the meatiest role and he carries it off like he usually does. His chemistry with Anupam Kher is good. The legendary Bachchan can carry off any role and he suits the role of God. Anupam Kher is great. Priyanka Chopra's role doesn't demand any acting talent. Sohail Khan is okay.

Overall, God Tussi Great Ho is an average entertainer. A few funny scenes make the Bruce Almighty rip-off worth a dekho for Salman Khan fans

Is far away, a small Punjab Like a village, where Lucky was born, one of the more notorious than he is - Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar). The village is tired their generosity, which has led to many hilariously disastrous situations. The desperation, they decided to send him a long way to go (to keep them for some time the village!) Lucky to bring back in Punjab, because of their heinous act of maligning his image, Australia.
Happy - the country is lucky, take their mission a little too seriously to begin his visit with his friend, Tony Singh (Om Puri), who hates to be happy for them or drag them.
The trip on a high point in the possibility of his meeting Sonia (Katrina Kaif), with whom he will love to, but his arrival at the destination, things in return uncertain, as they face a series of comic misadventures to Suffering, so her penniless. In a strange turn of events, the company failed in the life of Lucky is a good intention that Happy has been fighting off the attackers, endangering his life. Ugly aur Pagli is a film that perhaps makes a conscious effort to be different but in the process ends up being vague and mindless. Was it a romantic comedy? Not really because the humour didn't come across and the chemistry was never established. Was it a chick flick? Maybe in the last ten minutes but by then even the girls seemed uninterested.

Rather this one seemingly explored a female-dominated master-slave relationship between the lead pair though without any sexual overtones to it (despite Mallika Sherawat's presence). In absence of the sexual gratification, what kept this masochism ignited remains a mystery. In fact the girl keeps slapping the boy ceaselessly and for strange reasons the makers believe that each spank is laugh-inducing. The boy sustains his submissive side, unconditionally and unreasonably and without any self-defense or self-respect. This one is a case of no sex - only violence.

Kabir (Ranvir Shorey) is raised by his parents to a certain age as a girl. Perhaps that has made him somewhat sissy which could be the only explanation why he allows himself to be dominated by the kinky and quirky ways of an obnoxious girl Kuhu (Mallika Sherawat). So Kabir ends up wearing high-heeled ladies sandals, riding cycle without seat and moving around the town in a petticoat. It's puzzling why he takes Kuhu's crap because there's no incentive involved. Kuhu hasn't confessed love. In fact she is even averse to the idea of kissing. What interests her is writing grotesque futuristic scripts which she wants Kabir to sell to Bollywood banners like Yash Ram Films. Ironically Mr Yash Ram Chopra is modeled as Pritish Nandy, the producer of this film.

Half ways through the film you are still unable to make sense of the story. Kabir attempts to analyze the scenes with his nonstop voiceover in the backdrop throughout the film as if it were the director's commentary on a special DVD edition. But even that doesn't help. And despite its 8-reel runtime, the movie tends to drag monstrously.

Suddenly the film sobers down with a flashback account to justify Kuhu's absurd attitude which isn't acceptable though. The culmination is as much deceiving as much as the pre-climax scene where it shows Mallika Sherawat in a salwar suit (yes, you read that right). As the film ends with the much prolonged and practiced smooch scene, you feel that Mallika Sherawat has arrived. At least in the sense that she started off with 17 smooches in one film and today offers one smooch after 99 slaps.

The film tries too hard to be funny but the gags falls flat at most occasions. Moreover the sluggish pace and the non-existent storyline literally test your patience. And why the hell did they make Ranvir Shorey dance to typical Bollywood tracks? The actor appears absolutely uncomfortable and clearly can't dance saala. Of all the stupid spoofs that the film attempts, the only one that works is when Sushmita Mukherjee attempts to impersonate Sharmila Tagore. Ranvir repeats his loser act but to good effect. Even Mallika Sherawat is bearable this time till the point she attempts emoting.

A friend asked me if I would recommend the movie and my reply was Mallika's favourite line from the film "marna hai kya?" Ugly aur Pagli lives up to its name. It's an utterly 'unappealing' film that will make you go 'mad'.

Two decades ago, the Mansoor Khan-helmed QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK, starring two newcomers [Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla], focused on teenage love, with parental opposition acting as an obstacle. The story wasn't new, but the treatment was fresh and inventive. QSQT remains one of the finest reference films in this genre and rightly so!

JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA is a love story as well, but it's more of an Archie-Jughead-Veronica-Betty kind of a plot, set in the current milieu. We witnessed a gist of it a few years ago in the Shahid Kapur launch pad ISHQ VISHK.

JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA doesn't dare to be different. Basically a simple tale about a group of friends, it focuses on one couple that's in love, but is in a state of denial. Haven't we watched similar love stories in the past, you may ask. Sure, we have, but the execution of the subject makes all the difference.

Yet, despite the shortcomings, JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA works for a number of solid reasons and that's what the viewer carries home. A decent fare that takes you back to your adolescence, when friends seem to be the be-all and end-all.

Jai [Imran Khan] and Aditi [Genelia] are buddies. In fact, they hang out with their group of friends, but have eyes for each other only. Their friends know that Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other. Their parents know this as well. Everybody knows this. But the couple doesn't. So when do they realize its love?

Don't expect fireworks or melodrama in this prem kahani. It's an extremely simple, uncomplicated tale that never goes over the top. The bonding amongst friends is well established. So is the relationship that Ratna Pathak Shah shares with her deceased husband's portrait [reminds you of Ashok Saraf-Priya Tendulkar relationship in the popular comedy show HUM PAANCH].

Besides, the two [popular] songs that come in the initial reels -- 'Kabhi Kabhi' and 'Pappu Can't Dance' -- only spice up the proceedings. The arrival of the 'third angle' in this love story [Manjari Phadnis] is perfect. Everything is faultless in the first hour.

But the second hour lets you down. The Ayaz-Genelia relationship is, again, well developed, but the second hour gets a tad lengthy. But what looks completely out of place in this light and breezy entertainer is the Rajput connection and how it saves the lead man from the cop [Paresh Rawal]. This track irritates!

Also, the climax, set in an airport, is beaten to death. There's no novelty in it, since we've seen the same ending in film after film.

Abbas Tyrewala has the makings of a fine director. A.R. Rahman's music is already a rage and the two songs at the start are superb compositions. Cinematography is excellent.

Every member of the cast stands out, but the film belongs to Imran and Genelia. Imran has been presented as the boy-next-door and that works in his favor. He has screen presence and acts very well for a first timer. Most importantly, he looks the part. Genelia adds freshness to her scenes. What makes you take to Genelia is her spontaneity. Also, the mischievous look in her eyes conveys sorrow with equal ease. Wish to see more of her in Hindi movies! Manjari is a complete natural. She is very effective.

The group of friends -- Karan [as Rotlu], Alishka [as Bombs], Nirav [as Jiggy] and Sughanda [as Shaleen] -- are excellent. Each compliments the other well. Ratna Pathak Shah is highly competent. Jayant Kripalani and Anuradha Patel [as Genelia's parents] are sweet. Pratiek Babbar [as Genelia's brother] springs a pleasant surprise. He is flawless in an unconventional role. Ayaz Khan [as Genelia's fiancé] registers a strong impact. A good actor!

Rajat Kapoor and Kitu Gidwani [as Manjari's parents] are fair. Naseeruddin Shah is in terrific form. Paresh Rawal, again, is wonderful. Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan irritate, mainly because the roles don't work.

On the whole, JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA is a breezy entertainer which will be loved by its target audience -- the youth. At the box-office, business at multiplexes should ensure a speedy recovery for this moderate budget film. A profitable venture!

Kismat Konnection falls under the league of those feel-good NRI love stories having a customary Indian narration in some foreign location. The kinds where every person the hero even randomly stumbles upon speaks to him in Hindi. The kinds where the hero is still named as Raj Malhotra. Where’s the story you ask? Left to chance... fate, destiny, luck or Kismat as you may call it.

Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor) is the university topper but somehow luck isn’t favouring him. Five years post graduation he is still jobless and waiting for his first assignment as an architect. Kismet connects as he comes across Priya (Vidya Balan) who happens to be his lucky charm. In her presence even the impossible turns achievable for Raj. Raj desperately seeks her company in all his endeavours from employment to affection.

Just when you start liking the breezy premise, the director decides to add (rotten) meat to the story by adding a hackneyed love triangle to stretch the screenplay by a few more clichéd scenes. Priya is already engaged with another guy but we are familiar with the fact that the heroine will ultimately end up with the hero. And since the third angle just happens to be some side-hero, he’s also given a bad conduct certificate of two-timing to make his exit easier.

On a parallel note Raj gets the contract to design a shopping mall which incidentally happens to be on the same land where Priya supports a community center. Surprisingly the film derives the plot on the same grounds of the old age home premise in Lagey Raho Munnabhai and more shockingly Vidya Balan ends up playing the same character as in the earlier film. Either director Aziz Mirza should have derived from some other source or if the inspiration was so compelling, he should have cast some other actress. This is déjà vu on the face.

Finally Raj wins both, Priya and the project by delivering a sentimental speech in the climax where he talks about everything from global warming to US superpower but for the practicality of the project. Was there a cross connection here? And the film opts for such a convenient conclusion that you wonder if there was any problem at the first place.

Pritam, so often accused of being more than legitimately inspired from compositions of others, comes up with a pretty hearable score in ‘Kismat Konnection’. Listening to the songs a couple of times gave me the impression that perhaps half of ‘Kismat Konnection’, if not more, is set in some discotheque.

From what I know, the film’s story is set in Toronto and stars Shahid Kapur as a struggling architect while Vidya Balan plays his lucky charm that turns his phooti Kismat around.

The music album of the film has five supposedly original compositions. Three of which are full-on dance tracks with their obligatory, pepped-up remixes. Only two tracks give the impression that the movie is a love story. One of these romantic tracks has Atif Aslam while the other has Mohit Chauhan of ‘Silk Route’.

Singer Neeraj Shridhar tries to take you “higher” at the very start of the album with his ‘Aai Paapi (Tu Hai Meri Soniye)’, which, to be honest, is quite a likeable dance track with some rap interludes.

After some hopping and skipping it’s time to settle down for a romantic track with Atif Aslam and Alka Yagnik with ‘Bakhuda Tumhi Ho’, which almost begins like a U2 song with that characteristic Edge in the guitar. But when a chorus of girls goes “Tumhi Saanson Mein” with their pretentious mushiness, you know it’s a regulation Bollywood track that’s been given some soul by singer Atif Aslam who pours his heart out, but at times also grates on your nerves with his high-pitched hollering. Alka Yagnik’s mellow voice stands out in sharp and delectable contrast to Atif’s.

Shaan, whose voice suits mellow and melodramatic songs, tries the impossible (successfully to some extent) in ‘Move Your Body Now’ with Hard Kaur and Akruti Kakkar. The song is a beat-packed dance number with oodles of attitude from the spunky Hard Kaur. The lyrics are banal, but in a funny way. Check this : “Sadde naal karle party, kudi tu lagti hai naughty, pheeki pheeki raat ho gayi.” But not a pheeki track, this one.

Presuming that this song might become a rage among party animals, the makers decided to add another similar version of the song with singer Adeel instead of Shaan. Even as I was scratching my head trying to figure out the rhyme or reason for keeping this almost identical track, I spotted a remix version of the same track a little later.

Anyway, looking forward (rather hearing forward) to the brighter side, the album veers again into a romantic mood with the languidly-paced ‘Is This Love’ that has a very catchy riff on guitar and fine vocals by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghosal.

The real spoiler in the album is saved for the last – ‘Soniye Ve (Dhak Dhak Dhak)’. Though the song has a powerful start with dhols and synthesizers fusing together to lay foundation for a foot-savvy bhangra track, the thrill is gone when you hear the words, which does not prompt you for a no-holds-barred jig. Rather, it’s the song of a guy trying to woo his girl. A thud thud thud track, this one.

All in all, barring a few glitches, KK is a decent album with some good dance and romance tracks and their sonically glossed up versions

Kumar Mangat's MONEY HAI TO HONEY HAI, a frothy laugh riot brings them together with bunch of hot 'n' happening stars with loads of 'masala' music in it. After making unconventional directorial debut with offbeat SWAMI, ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya makes his first commercial directorial move with this hilarious extravaganza. It also marks the first consequential commercial outing for talented composer duo Nitin Arora and Sony Chandy (Nitz 'N' Sony) who made their debut with somber sounding numbers in SWAMI. Will the music of this comical hullabaloo be making this gifted composer duo listed among list of most happening new composers? Let's find out…soothsayers predict win-win situation, is it so?

Nitz 'N' Sony makes innovative moves in incorporating peculiar sounding music, noises and genres to create a emblematic feel of a 'hilarious thriller' in sluggishly paced title track 'Money Hai Toh Honey Hai'. It is profoundly infused with thrilling electronic sounds in low paced with an intrinsically 'Chinese' musical binge in its prelude. Talented Harshdeep Kaur gets a major break from her routine Sufi and devotional genre as she is the lead vocalist for this spunky sounding number. The frothiness with glitz and gloss will surely be attracting a large section of listeners and will help it in having major takers from 'aam junta'.

Adnan Sami leads the bandwagon of funky pranksters in typical Afro-American stylized rap cum reggae number that emotes out the mindset of 'money-loving' youth in upbeat sounding 'Awaara Dil'. This lethargically paced number brings on more bizarre noises in the backdrop with Shruti Pathak, Nitz 'N' Sony, Arya, Bob, Ishq Bector, Shantanu Hudlikar joining the fun. Sameer's funky sounding lyrics with extra 'ding-ding', soft piano drills and repetitively rendered rap gives it an all together peppy outlook.

Labh Janjua, a hot favorite in Pritam's album makes a scorching chemistry with Sunidhi Chauhan in stylishly Punjabi cum Sufi folksy track 'Chhuriyaan'. This song too unravels slow-paced orchestrations flair where mix and match of folksy Punjabi and Sufi music dominates. It's a quizzically paced experimentation where the tempo has been relaxed to get a different feel for a mushy romantic appeal.

characteristically choreographer specialist number brings many moods for dancing on floors and beaches as this comes out in upbeat 'grind' groovy beat patterns. It sounds like a typical Govinda 'jhatkas' song where Kunal Ganjawala brilliantly modulating voices set the mood and festivity for the song. Rekha Bharadwaj voices out as lead female vocalist while back up vocals of Nitz 'N' Sony, Earl and Arya makes it modish with frenzied rap wordings.

The celebratory mood of a lavish get-together is facilitated through synchronized 'shehnai' sounds with strong punches of 'bhangra' mood taking over the proceedings in 'Rangeeli Raat'. Daler Mehndi gets a consequential outing for this typical flashy song that is amiably joined in tandem by Master Saleem, Sunidhi Chauhan and Arya.

Sunidhi's vivaciously oozed performance adds candid moments in varying overtones and gels well with the catchy rhythms of the song. It's likely to be adding glitz and grandeur for this comical adventure and likely to be newsmaker in the promos of the film.
